Nancy Pond Trail (September 22)
A beautiful Solstice Friday morning beckoned me back to Crawford Notch for the final link in my east Pemi Wilderness trails collection - the 2.8 miles of the Nancy Pond Trail beyond the outlet of Norcross Pond. Irene had damaged the section I had hiked several times before, necessitating a rugged reroute of switchbacks above and away from the Brook. This increased difficulty while reducing views, and low water made Nancy Cascades less scintillating than on some prior visits.
The view into the Pemi Wilderness from the Norcross Pond outlet rocks still charmed, however, and I loved that new 2.8 mile section - an even, relaxed slope followed by a straightaway, all with good surfaces. It didn't seem like the Whites.
